Winifred Awosika Scrabble Tournament for Schools (WASTFS)
The WASTFS holds on Thursday 26th and Saturday 28th May 2011 at Victor Awosika hall inside Chrisland Schools Opebi Ikeja. In this maiden edition, 26 schools will log it out in the battle of Words, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.
Participants will come from both public and private schools. 1st prize winner goes home with N250000, 2nd prize N150000, 3rd prize N100000, 4th and 5th prizes will go home with N50000 each. The ‘Ibironke’ award for spectacular play will be given to the player with the highest score in a single play.
The WASTFS is proudly sponsored by the Winifred Awosika Foundation (WAF) and organised by the Protégé Centre (www.protegecentre.com) and the Scrabble in Schools Initiative SiSi (www.scrabbleinschoolsinitiative.blogspot.com).

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE For 52 players representing 26 schools (2 representatives from each school)
FIRST ROUND: 26 tables for 2 players (26 winners will qualify for second round)
SECOND ROUND: 13 tables for 2 players (13 winners and 3 best losers will qualify for 3rd round)
THIRD ROUND: 8 tables for 2 players (8 winners will qualify for Quarter finals)
FOURTH ROUND (Quarter final): 4 tables for 2 players (4 winners will qualify for semi finals 4 losers will play for fifth prize)
FIFTH PRIZE MATCH: 1 table for 4 Players.
FIFTH ROUND (SEMI FINALS): 2 tables for 2 players (2 winners will qualify for finals and the 2 losers will play for 3rd and 4th prize)
3RD PRIZE MATCH: 1 table for 2 players
SIXTH ROUND (FINALS): 1 table for 2 players
Note: players will be timed 2 minutes per play. First player to hit the 150 mark wins (each player has equal play frequency except when there is loss of turn)
