WINIFRED AWOSIKA SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT FOR SCHOOLS 2012

Introduction

The Winifred Awosika Scrabble Tournament for schools (WASTFS) 2012 is an annual Scrabble event involving both Public and Private Primary schools with over One million naira (N1, 000, 000) in prize money. The first edition was held on the 26^th and 28^th May 2011 at Chrisland schools Opebi Ikeja.

WASTFS is organized by the Protégé Centre & the Scrabble in Schools initiative (SISI) and funded by the Winifred Awosika Foundation (WAF). The WAF is chaired by its founder High Chief Dr (Mrs) Winifred Adefolahan Awosika OON (who is also the Chairman and founder of Chrisland Schools).

Maiden Edition

Last year’s event was said to be very successful by all and sundry. It got wide spread media coverage in both the print (Punch, Thisday, Daily Independent, Vanguard, Compass and many more) and electronic (STV, NTA, GALAXY and TVC) media.

Prizes

Prizes were won by pupils who excelled at the tournament: 1^st prize N250000 (Arinze Onwuachusi) 2^nd prize N150000 (Tobi Fajuyi) 3^rd prize N100000, 4^th prizes N50000 and they were cash prizes for 5^th to 8^th prizes winners.

This Year’s event

This Year’s event will come up on the 25^th and 26^th May 2012 at the Victor Awosika Hall Opebi Ikeja (inside Chrisland Schools) during the Children’s day celebration. The cash prizes remain the same with last year’s, with the exception of an added Trophy for this year’s first prize winner (which can be sponsored and branded by your company)

 Over 200 Participants will come from over 50 schools (30 public and 20 private primary schools).
